A Hindu saint went to the Ganga to bathe. There he came across a family shouting at each other. He turned to his disciples, smiled and asked them,” Why do people shout at each other?” The disciples thought for a while and then one of them said ,” We shout because we loss the calmness in our mind.” But why do we shout when the other person is standing just next to you? You can tell him off in a soft manner, can’t you?” Promoted the saint. The disciple came up with several answers, but none satisfied him. Finally the saint explained, “When two people are angry at each other, there is lots of distance between their hearts. To cover that distance, they must shout to be able to hear each other. The angrier they are, the more they will have to shout to hear each other to cover the great distance. to shout to hear each other there is lots of distance between their heart. What happens when two people fall in love? They don’t shout at each other but talk softly because their hearts are very close. The distance between them is either nonexistent or very small.
Seeing his disciple listening attentively, the saint continued, ” when they love each other even more, what happens? They do not speak , but only whisper and when they even get closer to each other in their love. Finally, they need not even whisper; they only look at each other and that’s all. This is how close two people are when they love each other.” He looked around at his disciple and said, ” so, when you argue, do not let your hearts get distant; do not use words that increase the distance or else there will come a day when the distance become so great that you will not find the path to return. No amount of shouting can undo that.”
